Welcome to my art page.
This is where my mixed media pieces, reflections, and creative process come together.
Some pieces begin in memory. Some begin in music. Some take shape slowly, layer by layer, until they finally feel like home.

Bag Lady

Inspired by the song “Bag Lady” by Erykah Badu.

My inspiration for this piece came from the song Bag Lady by Erykah Badu.

I have always loved her as an artist. Many of her songs carry a depth that seems to meet me right where I am, and this particular one has been playing heavily in my head since I began my Set Me Free blog journey.

I knew I wanted to create a mixed media piece to accompany the story unfolding in my writing.

I made many attempts to finish her, but something never felt quite right.

Still, I kept returning to the table.

In the beginning she was hunched over, carrying a bag filled with troubles — traumas, stressors, and the things we gather along the way that slowly become too heavy to hold.

Somewhere along the way, I realized I had walked that road too.

By the time I sat down to finish this piece, something inside me had shifted. I didn’t want her to stay there, bent under the weight of it all. I wanted her to move forward.

What finally emerged no longer felt like a Bag Lady.

She came out of something heavy, and I wanted to share the beauty that appeared on the other side of it.

When I stepped back and looked at her, she felt right — like I had finally made it home and was ready for the next part of my journey.

Sometimes art takes time because it is waiting for the truth.

And when the truth finally arrives, the piece knows exactly what to do.

Another small step in my Set Me Free journey.
